Conference Overview

The Emergency & Ambulatory Care Program at l’Hôpital régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital is pleased to host this multidisciplinary learning event in the Northeast.  The agenda covers a wide range of lectures on the theme of our rapidly changing healthcare landscape.  Updated information on some of the latest trends and clinical topics, with a particular relevance to the demography in Northern Ontario, will be presented.

Pre-Conference Workshop

ECG & Rhythm Interpretation & Cardiology Update
April 26th & 27th, 2011

This workshop is designed to help the participants develop a better understanding of the normal ECG tracing and rhythm, recognize when things are not “right” and understand the significance of the changes.  Throughout both days, there will be discussions on appropriate actions and treatments according to current AHA/ACC/CCS Guidelines.

Advanced Trauma Life Support

The ATLS course teaches a systematic, concise approach to the early care of the trauma patient.  It has become the foundation of care for injured patients by teaching a common language and approach (J.Fildes, Chair American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma).  For physicians who infrequently treat trauma, the ATLS course provides an easily remembered method for evaluating and treating the victim of a traumatic event.  For those doctors who treat traumatic disease on a frequent basis, the ATLS course provides a scaffold for evaluation, treatment, education and quality assurance—in short, a system of trauma care that is measurable, reproducible and comprehensive.

 

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses
April 30th & May 1st, 2011
Sudbury Regional Hospital
Fees:  $450.00

The ATCN course is taught concurrently with the ATLS for physicians.  This program is presented by the Society of Trauma Nurses in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.  It was developed to teach established standards of trauma care and practical life-saving skills.  The course is designed for the nurse working in Emergency Departments, Intensive Care Units, peri-operative areas and the pre-hospital setting or any department related to trauma care.  The course includes practical skill stations and moulage assessment stations which demonstrate application of didactic information.
